Say goodbye to IE6!

Still using internet explorer 6?

Your missing out! Web developers waste hours of work trying to support IE6 and many are starting to give up its support.

It’s easy to update and means that you see websites how they are designed to look, not a 10 year old browsers interpretation.

There are many benefits of upgrading to a newer version of Internet Explorer – improved speed, tabbed browsing, and better privacy settings to name a few.

The web has undergone significant changes over the past 10 years. Web browsers have evolved to adapt to new web technologies and to improve security. Internet Explorer 6 is outdated, especially since Internet Explorer 9 was released.

We highly recommend that all users of Internet Explorer 6 (or older) update as soon as possible to a more up-to-date browser, whether it is Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome, or another browser.

Even Microsoft has being trying to kill off the browser for a while now, running a website asking for help to get rid of IE6 and showing how many people still use the browser.

As the website says:

This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers.

Do your bit. If you’re using IE6, upgrade your browser.

Asphalt 6 Review – iOS

I don’t game heavily on consoles like the the PS3 and Xbox. However I am more of a mobile gamer. So when I have 5 minuets to spare I will download and game on iOS. Anyway asphalt six is the sixth in the series of the high octane racing game. I have been a fan of asphalt on portable devices such as the DSi. I purchased this application a few months a go and now I have had time to play it for a whole and get a feel for the game, I thought i would share my thoughts and opinions about it.

Career
The career of the game is pretty simple. Complete the objective of the race to earn money to buy cars to go faster and win more races. However you start off in a very basic car such as a mini cooper and work your way up to getting a Bugatti veyron. What makes this game stand out from other racing gamers is that isn’t just circuit racing there others such as drifting and knocking out the set number of cars. Within the campaign you can also upgrade your car depending on if you have unlocked the parts to tune. Alternatively if you don’t want to unlock them you can buy them all! Which in my opinion does kind of defeat the objective of the game. Overall an excellent career.

Free race
If you don’t want to dive into your career for whatever reason. The other option is to do free race. However this is partly linked to your career because you have to have the tracks and cars unlocked it doesn’t have them all unlocked for you to try out.

Multiplayer
I don’t play online much on this game but more of the Bluetooth and local wifi connectivity as I tend to race my brother. But I find that it is very good as you can chose any car even if you don’t have it unlocked. However there are a few downfalls.
I found even connecting via Bluetooth very glitchy. Also when I race friends or family over local wifi or Bluetooth. I had to keep setting it up after each race as it didn’t return me to the the lobby. But instead to the main menu of the game

Overall I found the game an extremely good game however did have a few issues with it with online gaming but otherwise the graphics are incredible and is by far one of the most graphically pleasing games on the iOS app store.

What i would like apple to add to siri

I use Siri most days on my Phone and i have to admit i love it! However some commands i have tried on the 4S just aren’t added to siri which is a downfall! These are the things i would like to see in siri:

  1. Third party application support – I use Facebook messenger a lot on my phone, with text messages you can say ‘Siri read message’ and it reads your unread message now if you could say ‘Siri read my Facebook messages’ that would be ideal
  2. Business search worldwide – Currently on the 4S you can search for businesses in america so you can say ‘Where is the nearest Starbucks?’ Siri will then look for the nearest Starbucks to you, However this doesn’t work in the United kingdom, so i would like to see it working worldwide too
  3. Twitter integration - As twitter is not built into iOS 5 i would like to be able to compose a new tweet ‘Siri new tweet.’ This would benefit a lot of twitter users
  4. System Settings – With android you get toggles for system settings like Wifi, we get that but in the notification center or sir, it would be good if we could have this so we could say ‘Turn off wifi’
  5. Automatic reading, When you are in the car and dont want to wear earphones and want to reply to a text using siri you cant because you have to use the phone to use siri which isnt aloud. A way round this would be to have siri automatically read out your message when you get it.
  6. On older devices like iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th Gen

No-more 180 day deadline for Apples “Complete My Album” feature

According to MacRumors, Apple has removed a pretty stupid rule for its “Complete My Album” feature. It’s “Complete My Album” feature lets users download the rest of an album at a discounted rate, if they’ve purchased at least one of the songs from it.

You used to have 180 days to use the “Complete My Album” feature, but that’s gone as of today.

The support documentation for the feature has been updated and now states:

How long do I have to take advantage of Complete My Album?

When you buy individual songs from any qualifying album, you can complete the album at any time, as long as the album is available for sale on the iTunes Store.

That makes a lot more sense than the original 180 day rule which was, to be perfectly honest, pointless.

However, nobody told the folks who handle Apple’s terms and conditions for the iTunes store, about this change, which still references the 180 day expiration of Complete My Album:

COMPLETE MY ALBUM (“CMA”)

In some circumstances, you will have no more than 180 days from the time you acquire your first CMA-eligible song or video from a particular CMA-eligible album to accept that CMA offer, and upgrading previous purchases to iTunes Plus does not affect any such time limits.

For a sophisticated company like Apple, I’m surprised that they have been slow updating the terms and conditions, even though it is the holidays, but it is good that they have abolished this pointless rule.
